Safety Tips When Burning A Candle

Our candles are handmade using natural coconut wax blended with a minimum amount of food grade paraffin wax. It is considered one of the best and healthiest types of wax to use giving your candle an excellent scent throw, less soot, longer lasting, and the cleanest burn possible. We carefully choose our fragrances that are all IFRA-approved, phthalate free, and safe for your home. The wicks we use are natural cotton, lead and zinc-free. We are vegan friendly, and never test on animals.

Please keep in mind the following safety tips before you light your favorite Love & Hope candle:

For best results trim your wick to 1/4" and burn for 4 hours for the first few burns to avoid tunneling. Since we use natural coconut wax you may notice a very small amount of wax hangup on the side(s) of your candle the first few times you burn. This is normal and the wax will reach a full melt pool after 2-3 burns.

  • Don't burn your candle for longer than 4 hours at a time.
  • Never leave a candle unattended.
  • Burn on a heat resistant surface.
  • Keep away from children and pets. Do not place lighted candles where they can be knocked over by children, pets or anyone else.
  • Burn in a well-ventilated room.
  • Keep wick trimmed and other debris clear from the melt pool.
  • Extinguish candle if the flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly. Let the candle cool, trim the wick, and check for unwanted drafts before re-lighting.
  • The safest way to extinguish the flame is to use a candle snuffer to prevent wax from splattering.
  • Never use water to extinguish your flame.
  • Make sure your candle and wick ember are not glowing before leaving the room.
  • Do not use the lid to put out your candle.
  • Discard your candle when there is 1/2" of wax remaining in your container. Lighting a candle without enough wax can cause the glass to overheat and shatter.

Wax Melt Care & Tips

  • Only use with an approved candle wax warmer.
  • Remove melts from plastic packaging before burning.
  • Depending on the size of your melting dish, use only 1 to 2 melts maximum at a time.
  • Do not add oil or water to the warming dish.
  • Do not touch as the warming dish will become hot.
  • Keep away from children and pets.
  • Burn on a heat resistant surface.
  • Store in a cool dry place.
  • The melted wax doesn't evaporate so replace with new wax melts when the scent has faded - Wait until the wax has cooled but not completely solidified. To soak up the wax simply wipe it out with a paper towel. Most importantly do not discard the wax down a sink or drain as the wax clogs the pipes. Refer to the instruction manual that can with your warmer for further cleaning instructions.

Linen Spray Care & Safety

Safety

  • Flammable. Keep away from flame/high heat, sparks, open flames, and hot surfaces.
  • Do not ingest. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Give victim a glass of water or milk.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Avoid contact with face, eyes, or broken skin. If eye contact occurs, flush thoroughly with water. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.
  • Avoid direct contact with wood and other finished surfaces as it may cause discoloration.
  • Always test on fabrics in an unseen area.
  • Store in a cool, dry place to retain the scent and its effectiveness. If stored correctly, room sprays should last longer than 12 months.

Directions

Spray 2-3 pumps throughout the immediate space and refresh as needed. For best results, spray close to linen fabrics (approx 1 ft away) for longer lasting fragrance. The aroma can last up to several hours.

Additional Information

Mushrooming or Carbon Buildup

Wicks can sometimes get a buildup on top that resembles a mushroom. This commonly occurs with candles made with cotton wicks. It is important to trim your wick 1/4" between burns to clear up any of the buildup and maintain a longer lifespan of the candle!

Minimizing Soot

The best way to minimize soot is to regularly trim your candle wicks to 1/4" before your first burn and before relighting your candle. We know that most people don't do this before each lighting, but it really makes a huge difference. The best way to do this is by using a wick trimmer to reach down inside a vessel and snip the wick. They are designed to catch the trimmed part so you can easily remove it. We also have these available on our website to purchase!

How to Remove Wax From a Candle Jar

After you have enjoyed your favorite candle you can give your container a new life.  Since our coconut wax is a softer wax to work with, it's very easy to clean out a candle jar for reuse. There are a few ways to remove wax from your vessel. This is the method we like to use:

Step 1: Removal (wax, label, wick)

Remove as much wax as you can with a butter knife or spoon and discard it in trash or in wax burner. Next, remove the product label on the outside of vessel. Use rubbing alcohol to help remove any sticky residue.

Step 2: Pour hot water into vessel

Pour hot water (almost to boiling point) into the vessel, leaving room at the top. The hot water will melt the remaining wax residue and it will float to the top of the water.

Step 3: Clean Vessel

Now, it’s time to remove the remaining wax. Let the vessel cool down and allow floating wax to harden again. Simply remove the wax, dispose in the trash, and pour out the water.  Gently Wipe clean and wash with warm soapy water.  Use rubbing alcohol on a paper towel to remove any remaining scent left on the container.

Pro Tip:

Leftover wax is perfect for wax warmers. Simply scrape the wax out of candle jar with a spoon and place it on your burner. Clean the remaining wax in your vessel using the steps listed above. DO NOT DISPOSE IN SINK OR DRAIN AS THE WAX WILL CLOG THE PIPES.

Ways to Reuse Your Candle Vessel

Wait!! Don’t throw your vessel away! There are so many great options to reuse your candle vessel. Below are some of our favorite ideas to get you started:

  • Are you a crazy plant person like us? Candle vessels are ideal to reuse for plants such as succulents, pathos, aloe vera, and other smaller houseplants. You can even plant herbs and keep them in the kitchen window. Be sure to place a few small rocks at the bottom of the vessel before adding soil to help with drainage.
  • Your vessel is perfect for small objects around the house and car. Paper clips, rubber bands, coins, pens, pencils, markers, paintbrushes, and what the heck is this type of object.
  • Keep your candle vessel at the front door or wherever you most likely are to empty out your pockets and fill them with spare change, keys, receipts, buttons, etc.
  • Place your vessel on a tray in the bathroom and fill with makeup brushes, cotton balls, q-tips, hairbrushes, scrunchies, barrettes, etc.
  • You can even use them for dog or cat treats (just be sure to clean the vessel thoroughly).
  • The possibilities are endless!

We also offer a reuse and recycle option for your glass vessels:

Simply bring back your clean, empty glass vessel to one of the events we will be at, and we will take $1 off your next purchase (local only).
